Reno, Dayton, Fernley, and just about everywhere else in Northern Nevada have seen a lot of new home construction, and it has kept us busy.
The people building and buying these homes are typically not first-time buyers. They’ve learned from experience what they want in a forever home — and increasingly a water treatment system is near the top of that list. Once someone has watched hard water ruin fixtures in a previous house and had to install a system reactively, they want one lined up for the next home before a single drop reaches the plumbing.
The installation is almost always cleaner when the system is planned for during the build, too.
1. Size the System Properly
You want a system large enough to keep up with the flow of your bathrooms and fixtures. But we regularly find systems — installed by plumbers or bought online — that were sized off the plumbing diameter or off peak use as though peak use were constant.
Those systems are grossly oversized, and that costs you: they’re inefficient on water, on salt, and on power. Worse, water moves so slowly through an oversized vessel that it can harbour bacteria and algae growth.
Bigger is not better. It is the single most common sizing mistake we see.
2. Know the Incoming Water Quality
The water at your new home will almost certainly differ from the water at your old one, and the system should reflect that. “We had this system before and it worked great” causes a lot of frustration when people don’t get the same results on different water.
This is where being local actually matters. We know the water quality in each area of town, and how it shifts through the year. We can tell you what to expect from a given system on your specific supply — which often means telling you not to spend money on the wrong one.
3. Decide What You Want the Water to Feel Like
There is no single system that suits everyone, because not everyone likes the same water. People have real preferences between different bottled waters, and neither is objectively correct — they just taste different.
Your system should give you the water quality you want. Do you like the slippery, smooth feel of fully softened water, or do you dislike it? We have systems that deliver either. You should like how your water feels, tastes, smells, and looks — so we tailor every system we install.
